What Are REAL Aromatherapy Oils?
Posted on January 31st, 2012 | by admin |When the term ‘aromatherapy’ first showed up in the western hemisphere, the only people who had any previous knowledge of them were folks that worked in the flavor and fragrance industries. Then all of a sudden this buzz word was being heard everywhere, and created a lot of misconceptions along the way. Straddled between alternative health modalities and high end perfumes that actually use real essential oil (fewer and farther between these days), the general population has come under the opinion that anything that smells good is aromatherapy… which is absolutely not correct. Aromatherapy oils are the essence oils from aromatic plants that are extracted and used for the medicinal compounds that naturally occur within the oils. Chemically created fragrance compounds that smell somewhat like lavender that are commonly found now in grocery store detergents and dish soap is not real aromatherapy, regardless of what the manufacturers may want to lead you to believe. They are playing on buzz words with marketing, nothing more.
